Hello everyone! It sure has been a minute, hasn't it? The last two weeks of school = projects galore and no sleep. But do not fret, I have come back with a mini lippie review!
Let's just say everyone and their mom has boarded the liquid lipstick hype train. I am not an exception. If anything I am all aboard and on the First Class trolley of that train! Liquid lipsticks are definitely hype for a reason. Their main selling point? Gorgeous color that stays put. Without further ado, we have the ever so popular Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks here on the blog today! I currently own three shades: Lolita I, Lolita II, and Double Dare.

From Left to Right: Lolita I, Double Dare, and Lolita II.
Now these beauties retail at $20 a piece and can be found on the Kat Von D website or in every makeup lover's safe haven, Sephora. It's a bit pricey as opposed to oh you know, *cough* Colourpop *cough* but I think they are worth it. Many other liquid lipstick brands are about the same range also. E.g. ABH (Anastasia Beverly Hills), MAC, Jefree Star, LA Splash, Stila (at $24 actually!), Dose of Colors, Lime Crime, etc. I would like to think that we are paying for the formulation, which in this case, is true.
The packaging is ultra sleek for these Kat Von D lipsticks. However, as you can semi tell from the photo above, the ink/etching of the name rubs off over time. I haven't had these lipsticks for that long nor do I throw them around the world, so it is kind of sad that KVD's names comes off so easily. Those rose caps are GORGEOUS though.
I adore the doe foot applicator. It is the sharpest and most easy to manuever. I have pretty wonky lips and it's hard to go around my cupid's bow perfectly, but not with these lipsticks! So sorry for not having a picture of the actual applicator :(
Enough text, let's just get to the swatches!

From Left to Right: Double Dare, Lolita II, and Lolita I.
I know, I know. I went with what was safe. Of the KVD Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks, these are the most universally flattering in my opinion. You cannot go wrong with these three colors.
Lolita I is descibed as a "chestnut rose". I noticed that this color looks different on everyone. On me, it comes off a lot more chestnut than rose. There is a subtle hint of pink, but it looks a lot more on the brownish mauve side for me. Either way I love it. It is subtle enough for everyday "nude" but can be vamped up for a night out. Oh and just a random side note: I also got a really bad batch at a time where the color was practically poop brown. Luckily, they rereleased the color and fixed the batches to replicate the original Lolita. On darker skin, Lolita looks ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS. Like THE PERFECT Brownish Pink.
On the lips in natural light:
Lolita II is described as a "terra cotta nude". I remember as a kid, I always thought terra cotta was the ugliest color in the crayon box. Now I have it on my lips. Yeap. Eat crayons adult Linh. Anyway, this color is so beautiful and easy to pull off. It has definitely got some orange tones of a traditional terra cotta and a very slight hint of brown. I have no idea why they called this Lolita II though. It looks nothing like its big sister. If anything you would think that it might be more rose-y and the exact twin of Double Dare. At least for me it is. My boyfriend could not tell the difference between the two, hah.
On the lips in natural light:
Double Dare is described as a "cocoa blush". (How is this any different from "chestnut rose"? lol but I digress). Uhm. It is really pink. I do not see much "cocoa" in this lipstick color. I have seen it on my friend who is a little more yellow in undertone and still, no cocoa. When I think cocoa, I think of chocolate or brown. Am I wrong? Anyway, I would descibe this color as a beautiful subtle coral blush color. I understand why it was sold out for the longest time.
On the lips in natural light:
I think it is kind of hilarious how similar Lolita II and Double Dare look. The difference is suuuuper subtle. One is more slightly more orange than the other. Again, these colors vary with different skin tone. So all my lighter skin yellow-y pink Asian sisters, this is for you. <3
I will admit though, these liquid lipsticks get dry. You best moisturize or drink lots of water. If you're anything like me, your lips will start chapping and peeling like crazy with these on if you don't exfoliate and stay hydrated. They aren't half as dry as Colourpop's Ultra Mattes though. The Ultra Mattes are GG on cracked lips. Ouch!
Of all the liquid lipsticks I have tried, I think these are of my top 5. The formula is consistent on the three colors I have which is major plus. I have tried the violet color in the line called, L.U.V. (I WANT IT) and that one was the same in formulation as well. These lipsticks glide on velvety and smooth, they do not leave your lips all wrinkly, they don't bleed, and so much more.
Don't believe me? Try them out next time at your local Sephora!
Or love it? Buy it here. :)
Overall Score: 4.5/5
Pros:
+ easy to apply (the doe foot applicator is one of the best)
+ highly pigmented, one coat does it all!
+ fragrance free
+ consistent formulation all around
+ creamy and velvety
+ smooth on the lips
+ lightweight
+ does not transfer (watch out for oily foods and heavy makeout sessions though)
+ wide variety of colors
+ matte
+ goes on nicely when reapplying or over lip balm
+ no tackiness (not sticky) + no parabens and has Vitamin E
Cons:
- can get very drying
- price isn't cool for broke college students who love makeup
- can get a little patchy if you press lips together upon application
Thanks for reading and your support everyone! Until next time! xoxo
